Notes on the contents of the manuscript: The text for the Livre de Cristine (Condé 492-3, as well as BnF 12779) was completed in June 1402. First collection of (21) works of Christine de Pizan. According to the prologue, the Book was finished on 23 June 1402. However, this can only apply to the non-enlarged book; PAST was written in May 1403, CHLE completed on 20 March 1403, MFOR on 10 November 1403. Also, the addition of ISAB to the Book must have happened after 5 October 1405. Question: why the additions? Why did Christine bother to add the texts to the book, instead of making them into a separate volume of works? And moreover, what happened to the Book itself, where 'was' it between these stages of enlargement?

Notes on the extent of the manuscript: (Laidlaw 1987:42-3, n. 24) Part of L3 was cut from the volume and was 'reset' in the nineteenth century to create what purported to be a separate manuscript of the Dit de la pastoure, now Baltimore, Walters Art Gallery MS 316. In the process the end of the Enseignemens moraux, all or the Oroison Nostre Dame and the Quinze Joyes Nostre Dame, parts of the Oroison Nostre Seigneur, and the beginning of the Livre du chemin de long estude were destroyed. Once allowance has been mande for these losses, it is clear that L3 originally contained the same works as L1, copied in the same order. The lay-out and, probably, the rubrics show that L3 was copied from L1. Baltimore, Walters Art Gallery, MS [..], containing PAST, is the seventeenth quire of this manuscript.
